Different Putting Grip Styles

Have you ever considered the reasons why there are so many different putting grip styles used for the putting stroke? What are the factors that influence golfers to try such variations? I believe the reasons are the three C’s: comfort; control; and consistency.

“I purchased one of your grips recently while playing at Mission Inn Golf Resort, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. I liked the feel of the grip and putted pretty well with it at Mission Inn that day. I use the “claw” or “saw” gripping style or whatever you want to call it. Anyway, after getting home, I turned the grip 90 degrees from how you installed it, putting the large end of the teardrop in my left hand, and my right fingers across the width of the grip. Wow! Much better control, speed, and direction. This change increased my feel tremendously. I am sure others have mentioned this but thought you would like to know anyway.”

Tim’s story is a perfect example of why golfers should trust their intuition. If it feels comfortable, don’t fight it! Many of our customers that use the Claw or Saw gripping style have also turned the Palmbird Putter, so the narrow side is in the Left hand and the Large end in the right hand. (Right handed golfer) This preference is just that, a choice, based on comfort and feel. Which is something all golfers should consider because if your grip is comfortable, that’s one less thing you are thinking about before you address the golf ball. When your grip is a secondary, not a primary thought, then the line to the hole becomes the primary focus and putts will drop with more consistency as a result. Additionally, comfort feeds confidence.
