Orlando has been abuzz for weeks with Tiger Woods coming back to play at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the energy has been electric in Orlando, my home town!
While putting is the one thing about golf that I’m most passionate about, as Founder and President of PalmBird Putter Grips, I still get very excited about playing the game and all of its wonderful aspects, that includes teeing it up with a technically perfect Driver!
I was fortunate to be at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge last Sunday to assist my friend Scott Garrison, owner of SEG Golf (a mobile Golf Tour Tech Van), set up prior to the start of the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
I have known Scott for over twenty-five years and have had the pleasure of being at Bay Hill to help him set up for many years. Often times we have had the opportunity to see and chat with Mr. Palmer as he would ride around on his golf cart checking on everyone as they got set up. Mr. Palmer loved being involved with the set up of the Tech Vans as this part of the game fascinated him. He is missed by all and his energy is present.
I’d been considering a new driver of late and Scott surprised me with a custom Taylormade M2. A GREAT gift!
Scott has been building clubs for the professionals on the PGA Tour for fifteen years. He carries shafts and grips and I believe his is the only van on tour outfitted with a shaft puring machine. The SSTPure machine is a computer that finds the seam/spine on a shaft. Once the spine on the shaft is found, the machine marks it, then Scott assembles the shaft onto a club head with the spine facing the target to ensure a consistent flex every time towards the target. A consistently flexing shaft reduces torque and narrows shot dispersion. Shaft puring has been around for quite a few years, but with this machine the science has been perfected.
I have been told I swing like Mr. Palmer, a bit of a slash and smash action. Lately, I have been creating too many RPM’s on my drives and consequently have lost distance and accuracy. Scott presented me with a custom painted matte black Taylormade M2 with a “pured” TPT shaft, the club was cut to 44 inches and extra weight was added into the back of the club head to make it a solid D5 swing weight. It looks like a Porsche!
The performance of the driver was everything I have been looking for. My new M2 driver creates thirty-five percent less RPM’s resulting in greater distance (ball roll)!
My consistency improved significantly yesterday when I teed it up at Mystic Dunes. I had twelve good drives and only two sub-par drives. The highlight of my round was hitting a pitching wedge into the par five 15th hole after teeing the M2 high and going “gorilla” on it! I loved that the driver was built to fit my swing and I was thrilled with the results.

Having properly fitted clubs makes a significant difference in your game. Knowing where and when the club is going to flex can boost your confidence at impact. I’m very pleased with the M2 and already feel more confident with it in my hands and I once again feel like I can Drive For Show!
